In the early 1800’s, the North American fur seekers, traders and explorers sought out new hunting grounds and passage ways in what was then the new western frontier. They encountered magnificent scenes of grandeur that differed greatly from what lie east of the Mississippi. Many of the journals and letters of mountain men contain entries extolling the stunning beauty of this rugged wilderness as well as expressions of their deep appreciation of such a grand time and place.
